| Resumo | Deforestation allied with the conversion of Atlantic Forest by reforestation with exotic species is a common practice in several regions of Brazil. Thus, automatically detection of areas that have experienced changes reduces the time required for their characterization. In this context, the objective of this work is the application of an automatic method for detecting changes in plantation forest areas during 1986 to 2004, in Vale do Ribeira, east of the state of Paraná-Brazil. Specific objectives include: 1) generation of fraction images from Thematic Mapper - TM / Landsat 5 scenes, dated of 1986 and 2004; 2) obtaining difference images for each of the components (vegetation, soil and shade/water); 3 ) estimation for each pixel of the relevance degrees of the classes change and no-change from a Bayesian approach, with statistical parameters automatically estimated by the Expectation-Maximization (EM) algorithm; 4) relevance degrees adjustment by the insertion of spatial context information, implemented in an iterative approach of probabilistic relaxation; 5) production of a base map from visual interpretation of images; 6) Comparison of the results generated by visual interpretation and the automatic method. The results showed that the proposed method was effective regarding to automatic detection of changes in plantation forest areas. Furthermore, the fuzzy approach allowed a more accurate modeling of changes that occur in natural scenes between two different dates, since membership grades for the classes change and no-change were attributed allowing an easement of classification. |
